Congratulations on your new puppy!
We want you to make sure that you are ready and prepared for your new puppy. Below is a link with some general information on what we feed our puppies, how to potty train them, Causes of hypoglycemia & prevention, how to keep them safe from harmful environment and more. The link /attachment below will contain general information regarding your puppy and how to care for him/her and so; some info may not apply to your puppy. IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING YOUR NEW ADOPTION
It’s an exciting time, for you and your new puppy that has just joined your wonderful family. Below we will go over some important information regarding the health of your puppy and how to protect him/her from its new environment.

Potty training
Exercise playpens are wonderful to carry with you everywhere; they are collapsible and will protect your floors and keep your puppy's paw away from dangerous grounds such as hotels.
If you decide to go ahead and train your puppy the old fashion way, here is what you will need to properly continue to potty train your puppy.
You will need:
•Portable metal fence or
Closed in area
• solid floor like ex: tiles, cement •Wee pads
•And lots of patience
This is a common question that we are often asked which is, how to I get my puppy to learn to go potty in the right place? And to answer it honestly, the best way to teach your new puppy to go potty is to have a system and to stick to it 100%
Here are a few tips; this should help you train your new puppy:
When we are not home, we have our puppies stay in a portable fenced in area of our home. We NEVER cage them at any time. This fence can be purchased at any pet store for approx. $ 100 dollars.
This fence is wonderful because it able you to create the space that you need, depending on the size of your pet. Make sure that you start off your puppy in a small area, (This fence is wonderful you can make it any size that you desire, we suggest that you create a small space
for your puppy and slowly as he/she gets bigger , you expand the area of your portable fence!)
Once your puppy is comfortable and safe in its new fenced playpen, on one side put the wee pads and on the other the food, water and the bed where it will sleep at night.
Make sure it doesn't have a large space to move around, you will find that with time your puppy will understand that the wee pad is where you want him or her to go and will soon go potty where ever you put it's wee pad throughout the entire house.
Rule #1 /Never give them the run of the house, they might have accidents throughout the home or on the carpets and start going back to the same spots Always watch them if you want to leave them lose in the house, make sure the wee pad in near them.
If you are wanting up puppy to go outdoors, follow these instructions but move the wee pads closer to the door where he/she would be going from.,,
Once they understands the concept, move the wee pad outdoors and you should Soon start seeing your puppy ask for the door, wanting to go potty on it's wee pad.
Remember that some puppies get it right away and others might take longer to understand this concept, just be patient, give it a few months and you should start seeing the progress within a few weeks!!
Remember that we start them on wee pads as soon as they are 5 weeks of age, so your puppy is almost trained before going to it's new home, we have done most of the work for you !

EATING AND THE IMPORTANCE OF NUTRICAL
*Here is some info about what we feed our puppies *
As far as what your puppy eats, we use one of the following brands:
1) Orijen Six Fish
OR
2) Wellness Puppy
Puppy tiny bites small breed
(We will be providing a sample bag for her crate if flying Pet Safe and/ or if she is picked up locally or hand delivered )
The Orijen brand can be purchased in most fine pet store, and wellness puppy is available in all petsmart pet stores and /or online. You will be given a sample bag when you come and pick her up or when she gets to you, which will last you a few days, so no worries!
You can give them another brand in the future, to do so, simply mix our food with the food of your choice in the same bowl and slowly mix both and introduce your puppy to the brand of your choice. You do not want to introduce new good to a new puppy right away, it shocks their system and can get them ill or give them runny stools. Make sure to gradually mix the sample bag of food, which we will give you with the new brand of food that you will decide to buy.
WE ALSO ADD SOME WET FOOD TO THEIR DIET
In a separate dish and we put " Fromm Canned Food Chicken or Salmon " !!! She/he can be picky so make sure that she eats please. You may try baby food (beef and beef broth or chicken and chicken broth) which is canned food ( she/he loves it ) we give it to her once in the morning ( half a jar) and once in the evening ( the other half ) !
She/he is not crazy about the dry food, so the wet can food (Fromm Canned Food is by far their favorite)
***We also alternate with Wellness Canned Food, Grill Chicken and Greek yogurt, which they enjoy!***
ALWAYS Make sure that THEY ARE EATING upon their arrival :-))
I also recommend that you purchase nutri-cal ( which is a supplement) which could prevent hypoglycemia ( which is low blood sugar ) you can purchase this supplement at any Petco or Petsmart , pet club , here are the illustrations .
You can purchase it online or just about anywhere or everywhere . GNC is now the new Distributor for this kind of nutrical, so look for that brand ( it's in a white and green tube).

Hello, here is some information below, that I want you to read again, this will and can prepare you
in case of a hypoglycemia attack!

We are excited for you to meet your new baby!!
Make sure you have the nutrical or nutri-stat ready for your babies when they arrive at the airport (very important!!!!!)
you may want to get some canned food just in case they refuse to eat their dry food- when they get to you !!!
its always good to have handy !if for whatever reason they don't want to eat and start being fussy ( usually stress of a new home or new environment may cause them not to eat) simply give them 2 table spoon of regular yogurt ,or vanilla ice cream in a bowl for them to eat...and ALSO put white sugar (2 teaspoons) in their water. It will keep their sugar level up whenever they drink!
Watch that they eat please!!! Make sure that they don't play too much for too long...because they will waste energy and forget to eat and get hypoglycemic (low blood sugar)!
So when you wake up, and in the afternoon and before bed, make sure they get a finger full of nutrical !!! So 3x a day for the first few days when you get them, and when you see that they are eating well ..you can give them the nutrical twice daily(AM and PM..and eventually stop giving it to them in a few weeks !!
We rather you be safe than sorry!! Yogurt or cottage cheese is good for them, you may also try canned foods when you
First get them...just to stimulate them to eat !!!
But always leave some dry food around. The canned food is just to make sure that they are stimulated to eat and it will open their appetite!!
If your not sure if he/she is eating, and you might have more than one pet at home. Try separating them, and put 2 bowls (water and food bowls) for each puppy and separate the puppies in different crates or playpen...and see if the food was eaten throughout the day!!!..if not, then make sure you take measures for them to eat. Whatever it is (as mentioned above).
These methods are just temporary, we don't know how they will react in a new environment, we know they will do great, we just want to educate new owners how to prevent hypoglycemia before it happens!! Since it is the responsibility of the new owner to be vigilant and see the signs before its too late!!
If for any reason, you see your puppy, lifeless, or not coherent, or looking weak, or laying there ,not stimulated by sounds... These are the steps you MUST take before going to your local VET:
1. Recognize the signs (weakness, lifeless etc...)
2. Pick your puppy up and gently put pressure with your fingers on each side of its mouth to make sure that he/she opens its mouth wide and put a small amount (finger full) of nutrical in its mouth.
3. Pore a very SMALL amount of water (make sure they don't choke on it) In their mouth, usually they are dehydrated when hypoglycemic.
4. Repeat every 3 minutes for 9 minutes.
5. Even if the puppy looks lifeless, don’t panic, he is in shock...just Stimulate it by talking to it, encourage it, pet it..Don’t stop speaking to it!
6. Leave your puppy in a safe and closed -in area just in case they standup and decide to walk around. Make sure its a warm area, put blankets on your baby, to keep its body temperature and leave it on its side, and watch him carefully.
7. Watch for any positive signs like opening the eyes, trying to stand etc...
If you see any of these signs, your doing well!!!
8. Make sure you Repeat step #2 and #3
For another 9 minute and then STOP.(You don't want to overdose your puppy)
9. You can also add yogurt in their mouth which is good for them. (Only once they are showing signs of life)
10. Call your vet immediately, let them know that your on your way with a puppy that is suffering from hypoglycemia and Rush them immediately to the emergency!!
These 10 steps will most often save your pets life in 95% of all cases, if caught in time !!!
The key here is NOT to panic and let the Vet handle the situation!!
Most often times, your puppy will be feeling better within 30 minutes of your intervention, and will start walking or running around again within the hour !!
After a hypoglycemic attack, always make sure you monitor their eating habits!!!
And keep them warm in a blanket, or heating pad, especially after they come out of a hypoglycemia episode.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP THEIR PLAYTIME TO 15 min TWICE PER DAY, YOU DON'T WANT THEM EXERTING THEMSELVES WITHOUT EATING!! ALSO DO NOT SLEEP WITH THEM, ONE, FOR OBVIOUS REASONS AND TWO, THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THEIR FOOD IN YOUR BED AND THEY DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE HUNGRY DURING THE NIGHT TOYS AND WHAT IS CONSIDERED SAFE.
